Getting started with Rereader
From download to your first resurfaced highlight in about five minutes. No terminal, no configuration files — the app sets itself up.
Install
The link is in your purchase email (from [email protected] — check spam if it's not in your inbox within a minute of buying). The link stays valid for 7 days; reply to the email for a fresh one any time.
Double-click the downloaded file, then drag the Rereader icon onto the Applications folder shown next to it. This copy step matters — don't run the app from inside the disk image (it will politely refuse and tell you the same thing).
First launch takes about ten seconds: it creates your library, starts the background service that keeps everything running, and installs the Kindle watcher and the email scheduler. The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens without any security warnings.
Your first import
Use the cable that charges it — but note some third-party USB-C cables are charge-only and won't mount the device. Within about ten seconds you'll get a macOS notification: "Kindle detected — n highlights imported."
Every future plug-in does the same thing automatically. Rereader also archives every version of your clippings file it sees, because Kindles silently truncate that file when storage runs low — more on that here.

Your first review
Click Resurface on the Today screen (or press r). One highlight per screen, source always visible. Three keys are the entire interface:
- space — next highlight
- f — more like this one (it returns sooner, and similar weights rise)
- x — less of this (twice in a row retires it for good)
There's no grading and nothing to memorize — this is resurfacing, not flashcards.

Where your data lives
Everything is on your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/Rereader —
one database file plus your archived clippings. Copy that folder and you've backed up
everything. Settings also offers one-click Markdown and JSON exports.
